Don’t panic, there may be no need to go out and buy a new carpet just yet.

I have 3 burnt carpet fix solutions for you. Two are free and the 3rd will cost a small amount in comparison to buying a whole new carpet.

Method 1- Small Carpet Burn Repair

For this method of repairing burnt carpet we will need:

  1. Vacuum
  2. Sandpaper
  3. Carpet Cleaner (Dr Beckmann is best)
  4. Nail Scissors
  5. Tweezers
  6. Comb or brush

1 – Vacuum the area to clear any debris.

2 – Sandpaper the burn mark until you’ve removed as much of the black, melted stain as possible.

3 – Vacuum up again to remove the sanding dust.

4 – Cut away any remaining burnt or scorched marks that look black or brown.

5 – Vacuum the area again.

6 – Use the carpet stain remover on the stained fibers of the carpet as per the instructions.

7 – Rinse with clean warm water and blot up as much liquid as possible.

8 – Leave to dry.

9 – Repeat steps 6 and 7 if necessary.

10 – Brush out the area that was burnt to blend in with the rest of the carpet.

Awesome, this was the easiest burnt carpet fix. On to the next method.

Method 2 – Larger area Burnt Carpet Fix

For this method of repairing burnt carpets we will need:

  1. Vacuum
  2. Utility or Stanley Knife
  3. Comb or brush
  4. Heavy book
  5. Carpet Glue

1 – Carve away the section of carpet that is burnt with the knife. Try not cut through the underlay.

2 –  Take the vacuum cleaner nozzle, vacuum up all the loose bits of carpet fibers to leave the area free from debris

3 – Cut out section of burnt carpet, cut around a new piece of carpet from an inconspicuous area like inside a wardrobe or under a large piece of furniture.

4 – With the carpet glue, glue the hole from the burnt cut out piece of carpet.

5 – Carefully place the new piece carpet in the whole, aligning the shape as close as possible.

6 – Once you’re happy the hole is filled and in place properly, put a heavy book over the top and leave the glue to set.

7 – When the glue is set, remove the book and brush out the fibers to blend the fixed carpet patch with the rest of the carpet.

Congratulations, you have just got rid of burn marks at home without having to buy a new carpet.

Method 2 video – Repairing a burnt carpet

I found a carpet repair video on YouTube using Method 2 for you and have listed it below

Method 3 – Call in a professional.

If the first two methods for burnt carpet fix have not worked or you’re not confident to do it yourself. There are some professional carpet repair services available and I would advise using a professional in the first instance.

A carpet repair man can save you time and hassle. They have various methods of repairing all types of carpets and rugs.

Most carpet repair professionals will use method 2, cutting away the burnt piece of carpet. They will use a remnant or another piece of carpet from another area of the home to match.

Using carpet repair professional tools. They will cut a new exact piece to match and blend it.

You would never know the carpet was ever repaired.

Conclusion.

I have shared two pretty safe methods to fix the burnt carpet yourself and the third method is to call in the professionals.

I prefer the third option as this can still be a cheaper than buying a new carpet. A professional carpet repair should cost between $100 and $200 and in the UK around £150.

However, you can choose whichever option is best for you and your budget.
